Recording Acoustic Guitar

E-mail Print
When recording acoustic guitar, placement of the microphone is critical. Try positioning a microphone about eight to fourteen inches away. Avoid pointing the mic at the sound hole, because if you do the resulting sound will capture the sounds from the guitar body and contain too much reverb. Try instead aiming for a spot about where the neck and body meet.

One way to add richness to a recording of an acoustic guitar is to use two microphones. Aim one at the spot where the neck and body meet; aim the other at the bridge. The microphone aimed at the bridge will capture more of the midrange. Blending the two together in the mix will help you achieve the sound you are looking for.

Recording the large acoustic bass guitars

For recording one of the large acoustic bass guitars now popular, try a large diaphragm condensor microphone. Keep the microphone within a foot of the instrument to avoid reflections from the floor. Place it about a half foot above the bridge; experiment with how much you aim it toward the sound hole, but don?t go overboard. Too much aim at the sound hole will add reverb, and you can always add more reverb in the mix.

Indie Rock - a definition

indie rock is a genre of alternative rock that most notably exists in the independent underground music scene. It primarily refers to rock musicians that are or were unsigned, or have signed to independent record labels, rather than major record labels. Genres or sub genres often associated with indie rock include lo-fi, post-rock, sadcore, C86, and math rock, to list but a few; other related (and sometimes overlapping) categories include shoe gazing and indie pop. Indie rock artists place a premium on maintaining complete control of their music and careers, releasing albums on independent record labels (sometimes their own) and relying on touring, word-of-mouth, and airplay on independent or college radio stations for promotion. Some end up moving to major labels, often on favourable terms won by their prior independent success.

A Block of Yellow

Do you love oldies, well I do! Here's a fresh approach to music, with an old feel! Desperately in need for some new music to jam to? I know, I am. It seems like there are so many bands and singers who sound alike these days. Granted I understand you go with the sound that seems to work, but how fantastic would it be to hear something new ... "A block of yellow is it!"

“One listen and you'll be singing it for the rest of the day, absolutely glorious. A Block Of Yellow's mix of sugary pop melodies and catchy guitar riffs are a pleasure to behold.”
